The legendary band Autopsy was buried 1996. Then Chris and Danny created a new band called Abscess. This band was supposed to have the same direction as the old band. Heavy brutal gore-metal when it’s as its best. "Through The Cracks Of Death" is their fourth cd. Joe Allen on bass entered the band after this recording. During 2002 the band signed a contract with Peaceville records and recorded this cd in Different Fur Recording studios in San Francisco. The band was aquatinted with the studio since before. "Mental Funeral" with the band Autopsy was recorded here in 1990. The band has created 11 songs on their record I have listened to the promo and my impression is that the whole record is about death, darkness and evil with songs like "Raping The Multiverse", "Escalation Of Violence", "16 Horrors", "Die For Today", and the titeltrack as well.
The band is supposed to play gore-metal according to the info. I have another opinion. For me it sounds more like heavy death metal, more melodic, more rhythm changes. There are parts with less speed in it as well. Parts of it are very fast. I haven’t heard the records before so I can only review this one.
This is a good mindfuck and blows all sorrows away. The record is a bigwig and I really like it. There are similarities with the old Entombed sound.
Earlier this year Chris came to Sweden to produce the second record with the Swedish band Murder Squad with members from Entombed/Dismember. The cd is expected this year.
